Abaron

Abaron is a video game in the action genre developed by Tantalus Software and published by Procom Datentechnik GmbH originally released in 1995. It is currently playable on DOS.

Humanity lost the great war against the alien empire and had to abandon Earth and its solar system. Now, after more than three hundred years of hard living inside space stations, they have managed to build a small fleet of spaceships and have set out to find a new planet to call their own and destroy the empire in the process. The player takes the role of one of those ships.

Abaron is a vertical scrolling shooter: the player can move the spaceship in four directions, fire the equipped gun to kill the alien ships and dodge their bullets so as not to lose the ship's life energy. Extra equipment must be purchased by collecting credit tokens left by the predetermined enemies. Depending on how many you have collected, you can buy another weapon by pressing a button, for example, three credits give you a pulse laser and seven credits a shield. Some of the weapons can be upgraded by purchasing them more than once and, if the player has purchased several weapons, it is possible to switch from one to another. When more than ten credits are collected, the count is reset to zero and bonus points are rewarded for the highest score; another way to improve the high score is to collect stars randomly left by dead enemies. The ship has only one life and there are no continues, but the game can be saved at the beginning of each level.
