Description Alchemyst

Alchemyst is a single player, shareware, block moving puzzle game. Alchemyst is about turning base metal into gold and that is the theme of this puzzle game, or rather turning blue/gray blocks into yellow.

The game is controlled entirely with the mouse. The playing area consists of a series of rows of blue/gray blocks of the same size. There is one row of blocks at the top of the screen, separated from the rest of the screen, which contains some yellow blocks. By clicking on this row, the blocks that compose it move one cell to the left, and the leftmost cell 'flips'.

The player moves these blocks until he is satisfied with the desired pattern and then clicks on one of the other rows on the screen. This transfers the blocks from the top row to the selected row. If a yellow block replaces a blue/grey block this is a good move, if a yellow block replaces an existing yellow block the result is that the block reverts to a blue/grey block. The object of the game is to repeat this process until all the lower rows contain nothing but yellow blocks.

The player can select different combinations of size and height of the rows, which affects the difficulty of the game, and the game records the highest score for each. There are optional sound effects and an in-game help file.

The game is set against a photographic background. Standard registration costs $5, but the purchaser can pay $20 to have the game played over a photograph they have provided with their registration fee.
