Released in 1987, Alien Strike was a groundbreaking game for the Amiga platform. Developed by the small studio, Ninja Softworks, this game quickly gained popularity among gamers for its unique gameplay and stunning graphics.
Alien Strike is a sci-fi action game set in the year 2050, where humanity is on the brink of extinction due to an invasion by extraterrestrial beings. As the player, you take on the role of a highly trained special forces operative tasked with infiltrating the alien mothership and destroying it from the inside.
One of the most striking features of this game was its advanced graphics, which were far ahead of its time. The game utilized a revolutionary technique called "pixel art" where each pixel was carefully placed to create a stunning and detailed game world. From the sci-fi landscapes to the intricate designs of the alien spaceships, Alien Strike was a visual treat for gamers.
The gameplay of Alien Strike was also ahead of its time. Unlike other games of that era, it incorporated a non-linear approach, allowing players to explore the game world freely and complete objectives in any order they wanted. The game also had a branching storyline, depending on the choices made by the player, leading to multiple possible endings.
In terms of combat, Alien Strike offered a variety of weapons, from conventional firearms to futuristic laser weapons, making the gameplay diverse and engaging. The game also had intense boss battles, where players had to use all their skills and weapons to defeat the powerful alien bosses.
Aside from its gameplay, the soundtrack of Alien Strike was another standout feature. The game's soundtrack was composed by renowned composer, David Whittaker, and it perfectly captured the atmosphere of the game, adding to the overall immersive experience.
Although Alien Strike was released in 1987, it has aged remarkably well. The game still holds up to this day and has a strong cult following among retro gaming enthusiasts. Its impact on the gaming industry can also be seen in the influence it had on future games, with many citing it as a major inspiration for their own games.
