Ambush

Ambush is a video game in the action genre and published by Virgin Games, Ltd. originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

Ambush is a space shooter that is played on a single screen without scrolling. You can move your ship around the screen, shooting enemies or avoiding collision with them. Enemies enter the screen from the top and move in various directions and speeds towards the bottom (they bounce and change direction when colliding with the left or right side of the screen). When hitting one of them they split into smaller ones, which can have a changed direction and speed of movement (this is repeated for the first and sometimes for the second hit).

Sprites created from a first hit will not leave the playing field, but will bounce from the bottom edge, but the smaller ones, created from a second hit, will disappear once they have reached the bottom. Sprites that have not been hit will re-enter the screen from the top. The total number of incoming enemies increases over time (as soon as a wave was completely destroyed).

The game has some basic sound effects (laser and impact sounds), but no music.
