Ant Soldiers is a video game in the puzzle genre developed by Sachen originally released in 1993. It is currently playable on Mega Duck.

Ant Soldiers places the player in command of a determined colony fighting for survival beneath the forest floor. Each stage presents a maze of tunnels, chambers, and open ground occupied by rival insects and natural hazards. The objective is to guide the ant soldiers through enemy territory, collect provisions, and reach the designated nest or exit. Progress depends on careful movement as much as speed, since narrow passages can quickly become crowded with hostile creatures.

The player controls the lead ant directly, moving in four directions through the scrolling playfield. Ant soldiers stationed throughout the stage may be gathered and directed as the operation advances, adding strength to the colony’s attack. Food, supplies, and other useful objects are scattered across the terrain, while barriers and blocked passages require the player to search for alternate routes. Some areas are concealed behind walls or reached only after an opposing guard has been defeated, giving each mission the character of a small tactical expedition.

Opposition comes in several forms, including enemy ants, beetles, spiders, and other insects that patrol the tunnels. Contact with a hostile creature costs valuable strength, so reckless charges are rarely successful. The ant force can overwhelm isolated opponents, but large groups must be approached with care and attacked from a favorable position. Traps and environmental obstacles further complicate the advance. Limited reserves make it important to gather supplies whenever possible and avoid wasting soldiers in unnecessary encounters.

The Mega Duck’s compact display is used for clearly defined, maze-like screens filled with dark soil, earthen walls, roots, stones, and patches of vegetation. Small animated insects give the battlefield a lively appearance, with each enemy distinguished by its shape and movement pattern. The restricted color palette produces strong contrasts between the background and the active characters, while simple tile graphics allow the tunnels and outdoor sections to remain easy to read during fast movement. Sound effects mark attacks, collisions, discoveries, and the loss of a soldier, supported by a brisk electronic score that maintains the sense of an ongoing campaign.

Ant Soldiers is designed for short missions that gradually demand greater accuracy and planning. Early stages introduce movement, collection, and combat at a comfortable pace, while later sections place more enemies in the tunnels and offer less room for mistakes. The strongest player will learn to observe patrol routes, preserve the colony’s numbers, and make every expedition count. With its unusual insect setting, direct controls, and combination of action and battlefield management, the game offers the Mega Duck a distinctive challenge built around the struggle of a tiny army.
