Atic Atac

Atic Atac is a video game in the action genre developed by Ashby Computers and Graphics Limited and published by Ultimate Play the Game originally released in 1985. It is currently playable on BBC Micro.

As the game begins, the player's character falls through a trap door and ends up inside an evil castle with only one way to get out: find all the pieces of the big ACG key that unlocks the main door.

Atic Atac is an action game with adventure elements, mixing arcade gameplay with exploration of a large castle and solving light puzzles. The player can choose to control a mage, a knight or a servant. Each character has access to a different secret passage, meaning that the player will navigate through different rooms depending on the character's choice. Characters also possess unique abilities: for example, the servant can gain momentum by running, allowing him to travel longer distances in less time.

Enemies appear in each room and attack the protagonist randomly. The player can choose to collide with them, which destroys the enemies but also drains the protagonist's health. Some enemies cannot be killed by conventional means and must be avoided or dealt with using special items. Poisonous mushrooms will also damage the hero, and bosses will drain his health as long as he maintains close contact.

The player character's life meter gradually depletes. Health can be recovered by consuming food scattered around the castle, but the countdown cannot be stopped. In addition, doors sometimes close, trapping the hero in a room. Keys must be collected to open many of the castle doors.
