Atlantis Conflict is a video game in the action genre developed by General Masters Corp. and published by K-Tek Software originally released in 1983. It is currently playable on Atari 8-bit.
Atari 8-bit was a home video game console released in 1979. One of the earliest titles released for the system was an interesting aerial warfare game called Atlantis Conflict.
This game was a side-scrolling shooter from a first-person perspective, where the player must eliminate enemy aircraft by shooting them down one-by-one in order to reach the bottom of the screen and progress into the next level. As you progress, the enemy aircraft become more powerful and the gameplay grows more difficult. Wind and gravity affect the airplane’s trajectory, adding an extra layer of challenge not seen in other games of its kind.
The graphical quality of the game is surprisingly good, considering the limitations of the time. A range of different colored enemy planes are visible, along with terrain variations such as mountains and desert. Additionally, a selection of special weapons is included which can be used to unleash powerful explosions on the enemy, making them particularly challenging.
Despite its age, Atlantis Conflict is still a lot of fun to play. Even today, the game retains a certain charm not found in more modern titles, with its simple but engaging gameplay that calls upon the player’s reflexes and strategizing skills.
Atari 8-bit games are some of the earliest examples of an interactive video game, and Atlantis Conflict is no exception. Its inventive aerial warfare mechanics, combined with its colorful graphics and engaging level design, make it a great game to play today, thirty-seven years after its initial release.
