Description Backlash
The game consists of fast and frantic arcade-style reflex action from the first-person perspective, very similar to Atari's Battlezone and programmer Paul Woaks' earlier and very similar 8-bit game, Encounter. The game takes place on a seemingly endless flat landscape, littered with obstacles in the form of 3D pseudopods protruding from the ground. Armadas of hostile UFOs shoot fireballs at you from all directions. Your aiming reticle is in the center of the screen, and is surrounded by a circular radar, formed by a series of small white dots, within which there are numerous red dots representing enemy UFOs. The player has five initial lives, and gets points for each UFO destroyed. The game features environmental effects, such as day turning into night and vice versa.
