Description Barracuda: Secret Mission 1

The player assumes the role of a secret agent, codenamed Barracuda, on a mission to retrieve segments of a top-secret nuclear weapon from the ocean floor. On the horizon looms an Iraqi salvage fleet, eager to get the weapon before it falls into American hands.

Barracuda is a mix of different gameplay styles, which can perhaps be classified as an action-exploration simulator. The player's mission begins on the screen of a map riddled with water jets. Incredibly slowly, the player moves a blip around the map in search of a sunken Iraqi ship. When the blip reaches its destination, the game switches to a sideways perspective as the player dives to the bottom of the Persian Gulf in a submarine, dodging or torpedoing marine life, all while searching for the hull of a transport ship.

Once aboard the ship, the view switches back to a close-up exploration mode. Each ship is a huge maze, often composed of multiple maps, usually devoid of clear landmarks. The character (presumably the titular Barracuda) is an essentially helpless diver, avoiding environmental and zoological hazards - tangled wires, sharks, jellyfish, deadly ping pong balls - while searching for treasure. Die and return to the beginning of the maze. Find the treasure and slowly make your way back to the ship's entrance - it's realistic!
