Baseball Craze brings the complete rhythm of a professional baseball game to the MSX computer, presenting pitching, batting, running, and fielding in a compact action format. A match is played between two opposing teams, with one side controlled by the player and the other directed by the computer, or with two players competing from opposite sides. The objective is straightforward: score more runs than the opposition before the final inning is completed. Familiar baseball rules govern the contest, including strikes, balls, outs, catches, force plays, and home runs.

Batting is the central test of timing. Once the pitcher begins the delivery, the batter must judge the speed and position of the ball and swing at the correct moment. A well-timed stroke can send the ball through the infield or deep into the outfield, while a mistimed swing produces a foul ball, a weak grounder, or a high fly that can be caught. The pitcher may vary the delivery to disturb the batter’s rhythm, and careful selection of the target area is essential. Every pitch becomes a brief contest of nerve and observation, particularly when runners are occupying the bases.

After contact, control shifts rapidly to the fielding side. Fielders move across the diamond to intercept ground balls and line drives, and the player must direct the ball toward the appropriate base before the runner arrives. Throws can be used to force advancing runners, complete double plays, or prevent an extra-base hit. Base running adds another layer of decision-making, as runners may be sent forward or held in place according to the direction and strength of the hit. A successful player must change instantly from offense to defense and keep track of the entire field rather than concentrating on the ball alone.

The action is displayed from a clear overhead view of the diamond, allowing the positions of the pitcher, batter, runners, and fielders to be followed at a glance. Simple, strongly colored sprites give each player a distinct presence against the grass and infield, while the bases, foul lines, and surrounding stands establish the setting. The presentation favors immediate readability over decoration, with score information and inning details arranged around the playing area. Animations are brief but effective, showing the pitch, swing, ball flight, catches, and throws with the brisk response expected from an MSX sports title.

Sound supports the match with compact electronic effects for pitches, bat contact, catches, and running plays. The limited audio gives particular emphasis to important moments, making a clean hit or defensive stop easy to recognize. Baseball Craze is quick to learn but becomes more demanding as opponents improve their pitch selection and fielding reactions. Short games make it suitable for repeated play, while two-player competition adds the excitement of strategy, bluffing, and precise timing to every inning.
