Description Betamax

Betamax is a side-scrolling shooter in which the player takes the controls of a fighter ship in hostile space, fighting to survive against wave after wave of alien attacks. The premise? - Shoot them down, collect the energy balls they leave behind and trade them for ship upgrades.

These upgrades are managed through a Gradius-like power-up system: collecting an energy ball advances the upgrade meter, and the player can choose to activate the currently highlighted upgrade at any time. Each game starts with three lives; active ship upgrades remain in effect when a life is lost, though they disappear after a while. On the other hand, some of them have additional levels that enhance the effect of the upgrade if applied more than once.
