Description Camp California

Camp California is the second and final game based on the short-lived multimedia property of the same name, starring a group of anthropomorphic animals who are the official mascots of the surf rock band The Beach Boys.

In the game, the burly surfers of the band Camp California discover that their favorite beach has been sold to a villain named Big Cheese who plans to build a nuclear power plant in the area. The gang's plan: hold a benefit concert to raise enough money to buy back the beach. Unfortunately, Big Cheese gets wind of the plan and sends his henchmen, the Ratz, to kidnap the band, steal their instruments and take the wheels off Woody, the band's trusty vehicle. Luckily, Byron Bear was surfing while this was happening, and now it's up to him to rescue his friends and retrieve the wheels and instruments.

The game is a side-scrolling platformer consisting of nine levels, with areas such as a beach, a junkyard, an amusement park, a military base and a shopping mall. The levels are reached via a general map of California through which players drive in Woody. To start the car, tires must be found in the first level. After that, all other levels contain instruments or crew members to rescue. At first, players can only control Byron, but once a new friend has been rescued, he can be selected to play at the beginning of a level. All characters are differentiated by their abilities. Byron punches and kicks to defeat enemies, while Lil' Bro (the protagonist from the previous game) uses his skateboard to skid or jump over bad guys. Shred can turn into a tornado, Pouch headbutts and is also the only one who can swim underwater, and Scream'r uses a boomerang and is the only one who can fly.

In addition to many enemies (mostly Ratz's gang, but also robotic dogs and other critters) the levels include recyclable objects to collect, such as soda cans and banana peels. When a level is completed, the trash becomes fuel for Woody. If the fuel runs out on the overview map, the car can only restart with the loss of one life.

The game features CD-quality voice scenes and background music, including three Beach Boys songs: Fun, Fun, Fun, Fun, Fun, Fun, I Get Around and Good Vibrations.
