Challenger

Challenger is a video game in the action genre and published by Mastertronic Ltd. originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

Ten major cities on a large planet have been captured by alien savages and have contaminated them with filth and disease while they occupied them. The only solution is to fly over the cities by bombing and destroying them to eliminate the savages and rebuild the cities. You have been chosen for this mission, so in your spaceship you have to fly over a city and destroy it completely before moving on to the next one. Challenger is a side-scrolling game in which the screen scrolls from left to right constantly. With very limited fuel, you can only glide over a city in which you slowly descend towards the ground. As you fly, you can only move left or right and you keep dropping bombs to take out buildings and after you reach the edge of the city, it wraps around and you fly over it again. The enemy fires missiles upwards and you have to shoot them or avoid them. Once the city has been eliminated, you can land but if you hit a building or missile, you lose one of your three lives.
