Description Cliffhanger
Standard side-scrolling beat'em up based on the Stallone movie of the same name. Sly must battle crooks and the elements as he tracks down suitcases of stolen money that have been dropped across the peaks of the Rockies. Combat follows Final Fight standard, punctuated by some mountain climbing and racing (or 3D snowboarding on the Sega CD) to escape avalanches.
Enemies are typical thieves, occasionally carrying guns and knives that the player can pick up. The game tends to follow the pattern of having to deal with a natural hazard (climb a cliff, jump over gaps), then lock screen for a fighting segment, nature again, fight again, etc. The available fighting moves are limited, compared to other games of this type, and the ability to hit an enemy character is noticeably less precise.
The storyline is identical to the movie, with levels based on or inspired by scenes from the movie. Animated scenes advance the story on the cartridge systems, while on the Sega CD brief clips from the movie are played between levels.
