The game is set in September 1944, during Operation Market Garden. The player takes control of a company of soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division and the 82nd Airborne Division. The goal of the game is to capture and hold key bridges in the Netherlands in order to allow the Allies to advance into Germany.
The game features a number of innovative gameplay mechanics, such as the ability to issue orders to individual soldiers, as well as a morale system which simulates the psychological effects of combat on soldiers.
