Description Codename MAT II

In this sequel to Codename: MAT (the original never appeared on the Commodore 64) you once again step into the shoes of Mat, now pilot of the Centurion II, in his fight against the Myons once more.

In the Terran War, it has been discovered that the planet Vesta is filled with the most precious substance in the galaxy, Karillium, which with a single drop can turn a desert into a jungle. The planet orbits the star Calest in the depths of a Myon zone, but Earth managed to invade and capture the planet with unmanned ships. With the planet full of Karillium mines powered by a power grid that is itself powered by Calest, the Myons have decided to destroy the power grid, which will cause the mines to shut down and the miners to leave the planet. According to the rules of war, only a manned ship can defend an inhabited planet and Mat has been lucky enough to be chosen.

The game is viewed from a first-person perspective, as you look out from your cockpit into deep space, with your weapon in front of you. Using a quadrant chart, you can see the rows of satellites feeding the mines, which also show your location, as well as any Myon ships. You can control your speed and direction, and if you need to move long distances, you can warp as long as you enter your direction. As you progress through the game, you will find that Myons damage satellites and these must be repaired by two droids on your ship who can also repair your ship.

Your ship also contains several scanners, as well as a manual or automatic targeting system. Once you encounter a wave of Myon ships you must destroy them with your laser or plasma while using the scanners to determine their position. Once the wave is destroyed, you can repair damaged satellites or your ship if necessary. To help protect you from attacks, your ship has shields that decrease when you are hit. However, you cannot be destroyed because when you are close to destruction you teleport away from the planet. The game ends if the planet's power is stopped by a row of damaged satellites.
