Computer Baseball

Computer Baseball is a video game in the strategy genre and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. originally released in 1983. It is currently playable on DOS.

Computer Baseball is a game of strategy and statistics. Managers manipulate hitters, fielding positions, relief pitchers and base runners. There are 28 major league teams to choose from and new team data can also be entered.

When you start the game, you have four options to choose from: play a game against the computer, play a two-player game, enter new team data, and review or edit data from an existing team data file. The display screen will consist of a scoreboard, batter and pitcher status information, and a representation of the playing field. The lower portion of the screen is used to enter the actions being performed.

There are seven different defensive actions to choose from: setting the infield position, setting the outfield position, how close to keep base runners, making pitching changes, making a defensive substitution, saving the current game status, and how to pitch to the batter. Some of the defensive actions taken will branch out to other options to select from. There are three different offensive actions to choose from: selecting a base running strategy, putting in a pinch hitter, and choosing how you want the batter to hit the ball. Selecting any of the three offensive actions will branch into other options to select from.

Player injuries are possible during the game, which the computer will specify while also determining how long the player will be injured (in days). It is also possible for a player to be ejected from the game for arguing with the referee. In the event that a player is injured or ejected, the computer will call for a substitute player. If a pitcher throws too many innings in a game, he will start to tire and another pitcher will have to be warmed up. Bringing in a pitcher who has not warmed up well in the bullpen will reduce his effectiveness.

Before the game starts, you can stipulate which players and pitchers on each roster are not available for that game.

There is no functionality to save statistics or game results.
