Description Computer Operator

This BASIC game simulates the experience of operating a large multi-user mainframe system of its time. As the operator, you first configure the system by choosing the memory size, the number of disk and tape drives, the maximum number of simultaneous users, and the overall speed of the game. These factors determine the difficulty of your job, which is to cope with user demands and keep the system running. If too many problems accumulate, the system crashes and you lose.

Once the system is up and running, users start logging in and doing their jobs; you monitor the system status in real time and perform your maintenance tasks via text commands. Users' jobs demand CPU, storage device, and printer time; you'll need to balance the load, repair failed equipment, bring devices offline and online as needed, and satisfy users' storage requirements. You can also force users offline, and even communicate when they complain about you through the messaging system.
