Computer Scrabble

Computer Scrabble is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Leisure Genius and published by Leisure Genius originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on DOS, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64.

Computer Scrabble is the first official computer version of the popular word game. The game has a dictionary of 8500-20000 words, depending on the computer, containing the most commonly used Scrabble words. As a result, some very obscure words are included (mostly 2 and 3 letters - keen Scrabble players will know that these are often the most profitable method of scoring), but common words such as 'bigot' and 'sheen' are queried by the game - simply tell it that your move is a word and it will carry on with confidence.

Words are entered by moving the cursor across or down to the starting position of the word, and then clicking to enter the word, pressing the space before the letter you wish to use as a blank tile. All words formed are accurately scored. The game can juggle your tiles and allow you to rearrange them manually, and you can watch the computer 'think' as it figures out the possible moves and their score. There are four difficulty levels, with the highest able to combine scores in excess of 700.
