Cop-Out is a cross-key controlled shooting game. The player controls a Prohibition-era cop who must shoot his way through 10 levels of criminals, jeeps, twin-engine planes, as well as birds and bottles. If the player survives long enough, he can advance to the next level.
The player can walk left and right across the screen and, at the same time, move the crosshair to shoot at targets. Bullets take time to reach the aiming point, so the player must shoot a little before the target. Walking is necessary to avoid bullets and Molotov cocktails fired or thrown by enemies across the screen.
