Cosmic Split

Cosmic Split is a video game in the action genre and published by Personal Software Services originally released in 1983. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

Cosmic Split is a single-screen side-view shooting game inspired by the arcade game Centipede where you control a ship at the bottom of the screen and must shoot and destroy a Centipede. You can move your ship left or right, as well as forward and backward a short distance. The Centipede appears at the top of the screen and moves across the screen, and when it hits a mushroom or the edge of the screen, it moves down one place and changes direction. When the Centipede is hit it then splits in two and as you keep shooting it keeps splitting until it is finally destroyed.

The mushrooms are scattered in large numbers across the screen and can be eliminated after several shots to receive bonus points. There is also an alien drone that spins across the screen, a snake that moves across the screen and a spider that moves down from the top of the screen. Once the centipede is destroyed, another one appears and so on until you run out of lives. If you touch the centipede, the buzzer, the snake or the spider, you lose one of the three lives.
