Daisenryaku G

Daisenryaku G is a video game in the strategy genre developed by SystemSoft and published by SystemSoft originally released in 1991. It is currently playable on Game Gear.

The Game Gear version of the grand dame of war simulations, Daisenryaku, stages a war between the fictional countries Red and Blue. On one of thirty different maps, units are produced and moved into combat, and the war only ends when the enemy capital has been conquered.

Three basic phases make up each turn: production, movement and combat. Each city or air base located within five hexes of your capital can produce one unit each turn, as long as your funds allow it. Each turn produces new funds, whose amount is proportional to the number of cities and airports you have occupied.

Units move around the map, which is based on 'fake hexagons'; the hexagons are in fact squares, but offset in each row so that each square borders six other squares. Each terrain type has different movement and defense values, which complicates movement and combat.

The outcome of combat is determined by the attack strength, which varies between unit types, and by their experience. Each time a unit survives combat, it gains experience points and eventually gains in experience level, which makes the chance of winning in combat greater. Since each unit is, in fact, a squad of ten, a typical combat will only destroy a certain number of the unit members.

An additional moment in the game is the reload phase. Units that have lost members can be recharged to the maximum in a city or airbase, and those that have run out of ammunition can do the same. Ammunition can also be replenished on the battlefield via supply trucks.

A total of thirteen air and ground units are available. Some units cannot fight against other units; tanks can do nothing against bombers, and mechanized infantry cannot protect themselves well against a howitzer two squares away.

The game can be played either against the computer or against another human player by linking two Game Gears.
