Das Amt

Das Amt is a video game in the simulation genre developed by Greenwood Entertainment Software GmbH and published by Greenwood Entertainment Software GmbH originally released in 1995. It is currently playable on DOS.

In this game you play as a newly elected mayor of the small Bavarian town of Tupfingen. This is not a serious political simulation, but a biting satire of the Bavarian way of life and politics.

At the start of the game you have to choose your political goals, e. g. to support agriculture or to become the host of the Olympic Games. The most important businesses in Tupfingen are tourism, agriculture, small businesses and clubs. Of course, they all want you to support them and they all have lobbyists on the city council who have the power to thwart your plans if they are not satisfied. If that's the case, you have to bribe to succeed, but not with official money but with the profits from your butchery (whose success also depends on the political situation).

Each round lasts a few minutes in which you have to meet the deadlines for every important decision that arises, for example, negotiations with real estate agents or potential investors. You also have to expand the agenda for the next local council meeting. At these meetings you have to assert your plans against your political enemies, with arguments or bribes. A special trick are the humorous videos of the German news magazine 'heute journal' with the original news readers in which they comment on your successes or failures.

The graphics consist only of still images, Bavarian folk music accompanies you during the game.
