Defense

Defense is a video game in the sports genre originally released in 1994. It is currently playable on DOS.

Defense is an American soccer game that can be played by two or four players, or by one player against the computer. It was released as shareware. The game's documentation says that it is intended to be realistic rather than pretty, with the player controlling the arrangement of players, plays, and making tackles. There are also options for defensive and offensive formations that can be selected by the player or the computer can choose between them automatically. Defense is always played from left to right across the screen with the computer team always on the left.

The game can be controlled via keyboard, mouse, joystick(s) and combinations of these devices depending on the number of people playing. The playing field is viewed from top to bottom and is divided into zones, such as the running zone, the line zone, the defense zone and the safety zone, in which the players are placed. When a ball carrier attempts to run the length of the field, he passes through these zones and the player instructs his player(s) to tackle or stop him using the designated HIT keys. There is a full instruction document in Word format that accompanies the game. It deals with the tactics of the game, such as running, defensive signaling, player movement, blocking, and much more.
