Description Derby Day
Derby Day allows you and three other players to bet money on the outcome of seven horse races at a meeting of a bookmaker called Jolly Jack. Before the races start you can select the type of odds you want to receive, Fun (up to 15/1), Serious (up to 7/1) and Very Serious (99/1 to 1/99). You can also select whether you want to bet in pounds or pence, whereby the penny allows you to have a player as a real life bookmaker taking real money from the other players. After your selections, you are presented with four horses in the first race with their name and odds. Starting at £100 each, each player bets on a horse with an amount of money, and if a player bets on the wrong horse they can change their bet.
The race itself is viewed from the side at a high angle with the screen scrolling from left to right, and when the race is over then a final picture is shown with the result of the race. The winning horse pays full odds, while the runner-up pays one-quarter odds. The money is totaled and the horses in the following races are shown for the next round of betting, but it is game over for any player who is out of the money.
