Lifespan

Lifespan is an Atari 8-bit game released in 1983 and developed by Synapse Software. This classic single-player game is the perfect combination of innovation and classic game design. In Lifespan, players take on the role of a fitness instructor, leading a group of characters through a variety of exercises, tests and activities. The objective of the game is to build up the strength, stamina and agility of each character through a number of well-designed levels. As well as the regular tests, players can also unsuccessfully challenge intimidating instructors, compete against their peers in a mini-Olympics, and recruit new characters from a range of creative backgrounds, including salespeople, farmers and archaeologists. The gameplay is straightforward and accessible, introducing each new character with a brief description and challenge. Players must use careful maneuvers in each level, while collecting points along the way. Those points can be used later in the game to purchase upgrades for the characters and help them gain skills faster, or acquire rewards between levels, such as bonus strength, speed or agility. There are three different difficulty levels available, catering to different players’ skill levels. The design of Lifespan is engaging and colorful, and the visuals are done in a crisp and modern style. Its soundtrack is catchy and reminiscent of classic Atari music, adding to the game's atmosphere. The sound effects are punchy and add to the action. The overall gameplay experience is addictive and rewarding. It's a game that gamers of all ages and skill levels will enjoy. There's certainly something for everyone, and with a game this engaging and rewarding, it's easy to see why Lifespan is still a classic after all these years.

The Dolphin's Pearl

This is an unusual action/puzzle game in which the player controls a dolphin. The player must first learn to swim through a large ocean world, avoiding sharks and surfacing for air after being underwater for at most eight minutes. While surfacing for air, the dolphin must also avoid getting caught in the nets of a tuna boat. The player must find a 'color current' under the surface, a kind of tunnel through which his dolphin must swim without being pushed by the strong current. Success is rewarded with a vision (dream) about the meaning of life and dolphin lore. This is accompanied by a particular pattern of dolphin clicks and whistles that is important to remember. Next, the player must find a particular color current in the ocean, from which the phrase of clicks and whistles heard in the dream emanates. Successfully swimming through this colored stream takes the dolphin to the bottom of the sea. There the player must find a mysterious rune, which may be a particular fish or a piece of coral reef, and touch it. This releases a hieroglyphic fragment that appears at the bottom of the screen. The player must then place the hieroglyphic characters in the correct order, using the 'dolphin-English dictionary' found in the printed manual. If done correctly, another visual sequence and a new click and whistle phrase will appear. The player then finds the next corresponding colored stream, seabed rune and hieroglyph fragment, and so on until all nine hieroglyph fragments are found and solved. Supposedly, the hieroglyph puzzle, when completely solved, gives clues as to where, in real life, there was a real pearl hidden somewhere in America.
