Hihō Densetsu: Chris no Bōken

A scientist named Arnold Steiner investigates the ancient civilization of the Indians in Central America. However, after a major discovery, Steiner mysteriously disappears. His daughter Chris travels to Central America in search of her father, and enters an intimidating world of monsters and conspiracies. Hihō Densetsu: Chris no Bōken is a platform game. Chris is armed with a dagger and cannot use any other weapon or gadget to protect herself. However, the dagger can be upgraded by collecting colored orbs dropped by enemies. Depending on its combination, the dagger can be used as a long-range weapon, firing projectiles or acting as a boomerang. The protagonist's health is measured in hearts; a stage must be restarted if Chris runs out of all five. Enemies sometimes leave hearts and coins; the latter add an extra life to Chris if he collects a sufficient amount. At the end of every second stage a boss enemy awaits him. Other features include platforms that move and disappear, deadly traps such as spikes, driving mining carts, and a strict time limit for each stage. The story progresses through anime-style cutscenes between stages.
