Card Crazy
Card Crazy, released in 1998, was the perfect marriage between classic solitaire and modern video gaming. From the outset, it was clear that much attention had been given to presentation. Every card rang with the sounds of triumph, cheers or jeers; depending on the outcome of each move. Every dealt card felt like a new event; always leading to the next move.
The game-play was simple enough; allowing player’s to pick up and play quickly. Game variations included Spite and Malice, Golf, Little Giana and Clock Patience. With each selection, the objective was to move the particular cards from the deck onto the playing field. If a move was successful, players were returned to the same predicament with fewer cards; or could move to the next round.
Despite its remarkable age, Card Crazy is still a joy to behold. There is nothing quite like a board of cards ready to take the challenge. The graphics still stand the test of time nicely and the soundtrack is something to behold. Composer Magdalene Abildgaard’s work gives it a nice jazzy feeling; remarkable considering the title's age.
The challenges sprinkle in as the game progresses. Some packs of cards will bring difficulty as they require mini-games to solve. It injects a fun and challenging element, allowing average players to have their moments of greatness.
Completing Card Crazy is a great accomplishment. Players can choose their difficulty at the start to make it more challenging or approachable. Ultimately, it is the perfect title for those who enjoy the classic solitaire game, want more of an adventure and appreciate quality design.
