Cred Breaks Out
Cred Breaks Out was a game released in association with the British bank TSB to encourage young people to join, and in it you embody Cred as you attempt to rescue the Interrestials from various prisons across four levels. The game is a top-view maze on a single screen and, starting next to your ship at the top of the screen, you must move through the maze to open the Interrestials' prison door and get them back to your ship. As you move through the maze, the prison guards, called Ontick's, also move through the maze trying to stop the escape. When you touch an Interrestial or a group, they will follow you, but if they touch an Ontick, they will disperse. If you touch an Ontick you lose one of the three lives but the level starts over. To complete a level, all Interrestials have to be rescued before the oxygen meter empties and if it does, it's game over. Before starting the game, you can select the level where you want to start.
The Bulge: Battle for Antwerp
This early simulation of the 'Battle of the Bulge' uses a semi-real time system for the game, which consists of 15 minute timestamps and will jump to 7:00 AM the next day as soon as midnight is reached. The game has a pause command, so you can examine the battlefield without time pressure. Units are shown as icons and represent a regiment, a brigade or even a division, each with a given strength value. At first the units are placed in their initial historical locations of December 16, 1944. Orders are given by selecting a unit and pointing to a target on the map. The unit will then attempt to move towards the ordered location (or enemy unit), and enter combat. In the course of the battle each side will receive a number of reinforcements that will appear in predefined (historical) positions. The units will fight until they are completely annihilated. When this happens, you will receive a message that will be displayed in a ticker at the top of the screen. Here you also receive information such as weather reports, air support and incoming reinforcements.
Victory points are accumulated by destroying enemy units and taking cities (each city has a value in victory points). There are some special conditions for the German side, such as not taking the city of Spa in time (with the fuel tank intact) will reduce the combat value of all units. The current points are shown at the bottom of the screen. The game will end on January 3, 1945, also showing the final points again, along with declarations of which sides claim victory. You can examine the final positions of the units and restart the game afterwards.
