Myst

Windows 1995
You have just found a most intriguing book, a book entitled Myst. You have no idea where it came from, who wrote it, or how old it is. Reading its pages only gives you the description of an insular world. But it's just a book, isn't it? As you reach the end of the book, you put your hand on a page. Suddenly, your own world dissolves into darkness, replaced by the insular world described on the pages. Now you are here, wherever it is, with no choice but to explore. Myst is a first-person point-and-click adventure in which the player controls a character known as The Stranger. Magically transported to the world described in the book, he must explore the island of Myst and solve its Mysteries. The game is presented as a series of static scenes in which the player acts with the environment by clicking and manipulating objects. There are no enemies and it is not possible to die. Through the island of Myst, the game is further divided into mini-worlds set in different eras that are accessed through different books. The game interface is reduced to a single cursor for navigation and interaction. Instead of collecting objects and using them to solve puzzles, the player must gather subtly placed clues and manipulate complex mechanical devices to progress through the game. The world of Myst is largely uninhabited, and the game has very few real action scenes with characters and dialogue.
