Tobruk: The Clash of Armour
The battle for Tobruk in May-July 1942 was one of the key battles on the North African front in World War II. Rommel led the Axis forces to a victory, eliminating Allied forces that rallied to densely undermine a strategic defensive zone in Libya. In this tactical wargame, players can do the same. Taking the six allied supply points is crucial to the success of your mission.
You must guide the movement and attacks of your units. You can also call in aircraft and engineer support. The game is turn-based; once you have given your orders, the allies do the same. The damage of the units is calculated progressively. Unlike the allies, you use mobile suppliers, which you also command. They must be kept within range of your units (no allied forces in between).
The game includes optional action sequences, which can be practiced outside the main game. You control the navigation, driving and shooting (with turrets and machine guns) of individual units, from a first-person view.
The Amstrad version has an additional mode: by linking 2 CPCs through a special cable, a simultaneous two-player strategy game is set up, with one player representing the allies.
