Reederei is a turn-based trading game in which players can buy and sell goods for profit. The game is entirely menu-driven and there are no action sequences.
During the game, players try to run a shipping company based in Hamburg. On each turn, each player has the option to send his ship to another seaport, buy goods there and return to Hamburg where he can sell them at a good price. Players must also buy ships to upgrade their sea convoy to increase their buying quota to other seaports.
The objective of the game is to increase the value of the company to a certain score. This score depends on the difficulty of the game. The first player to reach this score (either human or computer) wins the game.
