Total Knockout: Championship Female Boxing!
Long before the days of EA Sports' Fight Night boxing games, there was Total Knockout: Championship Female Boxing!. Developed by Software Toolworks in 1996 for MS-DOS, it was one of the first video games ever featuring female boxers.
Upon starting the game, players had the option to choose between five female boxers from all over the world. Each character had their own unique look, skills, and backgrounds. For example, the German boxer Peggy Schulte specialized in infighting and was very aggressive. On the other hand, an American named Traci TopHat preferred defensive tactics and had a strong right jab.
Players fought their way up the ladder on the quest for the championship belt. The tournament took place in six cities around the world. Each match was spiced up with vibrant ring girls and realistic crowd chants. Each fight concluded with a victory pose of the winning fighter. The controls of the game were easy to learn with the side of the ring acting as a joystick.
The game also featured a training mode which allowed fighters to learn skill techniques and practice their moves. Players had the option to customize the difficulty level, speed, and even adjust their fighters' attributes to make the opponents easier or more challenging.
Total Knockout: Championship Female Boxing! was a revolutionary title for its time and an amazing experience for players of all skill levels. With its simple yet compelling gameplay, it was one of the first realistic boxing games featuring female boxers and remains a classic to this day.
