Aro

DOS 1996
Aro is a classic action-adventure game released in 1996 for DOS, developed by the independent studio, Wyrmbane Games. This game was set in a fantasy world, where players assume the role of Aro, a brave warrior on a quest to defeat the evil wizard, Zorastor, who has taken control of the kingdom of Aranthia. Aro received critical acclaim upon release and is still beloved by many DOS gamers to this day. One of the most notable aspects of Aro is its immersive gameplay. The game features stunning pixel art graphics and a dynamic soundtrack that draws players into the fictional world of Aranthia. Players must navigate through different levels, each with its own set of challenges and enemies. From dark dungeons to treacherous mountains, Aro must use his sword and spells strategically to overcome obstacles and defeat enemies while collecting rare items along the way. The combat system in Aro is both simplistic and engaging, making it accessible for players of all skill levels. The game also boasts a variety of bosses, each with their distinct set of attacks and weaknesses, adding depth to the gameplay. The boss fights are intense and require quick reflexes and careful planning. Aro's arsenal includes various spells that players can collect and upgrade throughout the game, giving them a sense of progression and power as they go. Aside from its engaging gameplay, Aro also offers an intriguing and well-written storyline. Players discover the lore of Aranthia through NPC interactions and hidden clues scattered throughout the levels. This aspect adds a layer of depth to the game that keeps players invested in the plot until the very end. Furthermore, the game features multiple endings, adding replay value and encouraging players to explore different paths and choices throughout the game. One of the most exciting features of Aro is its multiplayer mode, where players can team up with friends to take on Zorastor and his minions cooperatively. This mode adds a whole new dimension to the game, promoting teamwork and coordination while providing players with a unique experience with their friends.

The Fourth Generation

DOS 1997
The Fourth Generation is a shareware side-scrolling shooter game with pre-rendered graphics. The player controls a futuristic aircraft and has to fight against continuous waves of enemies. The story takes place in the distant future, during a time called 'The Fourth Generation'. After the collapse of the Galactic Empire, a series of smaller kingdoms emerge, loosely united in a Galactic Republic. Although there is no open conflict, there are tensions between the various political entities in the galaxy. Following an incident in the Senate, one of the factions, Lorien, intends to attack the neighboring kingdoms of Qualix and Nimbur. This cannot be done openly under the watch of the Republic, so a different plan is devised instead. The player assumes the role of a Lorien space fighter pilot who has been stripped of his rank and imprisoned for misusing a prototype military aircraft (he took it for a ride with a date). The Lorien government chooses the pilot for a secret mission: to fake a prison break, steal a fighter ship and leave to attack the defenses of Qualix and Nimbur. In this way, the rulers of Lorien will not be held responsible for the actions of a renegade pilot. The Fourth Generation covers 11 missions, the first three available in the shareware version. Between levels, the player can upgrade the ship using credits earned by destroying enemy targets. Many different components can be upgraded, allowing substantial customization of the player's ship. In addition, on-board systems can be damaged by enemy fire, and as a result the player may lose the ability to maneuver, target enemies, fire weapons, etc. for the remainder of the level. Damaged equipment can be repaired between levels at the cost of some credits. The game can be played by one or two players on the same computer.
