All About Ohio

DOS 1992
All About Ohio is a single-person, keyboard-controlled, educational shareware game whose goal is to teach the player about Ohio, United States. The state of Ohio is divided into four neighborhoods that are colored red, while the surrounding states are colored green. Only one neighborhood is shown on the screen at a time. The player uses the arrow keys to move his character around the state in search of points of interest, which may be cities (usually indicated by a black dot), special places (indicated by a symbol or colored dot), or blue-colored rivers/lakes. When a location is found, the screen changes from a map view to a question screen. These vary in color and shape, but usually have a picture and one or two questions. The style of the questions is unusual. At one location, the player may receive two questions, for example; This is a monument to a famous civil war general. what is his name? a.) U. S. Grant b.) Sherman c.) George Custer d.) R. E. Lee The general was later famous as e.) governor f.) president g.) businessman h.) criminal The player responds by pressing one of the a-d keys, which brings up a text capture box, followed by ENTER. This answers the first question, and then one of the e-h keys is pressed followed by ENTER to answer the second question. Each non-map screen is closed by typing GO, so to complete the question they must type GO and press ENTER to continue the game. If the player enters an incorrect answer they are prompted to try again and again until they get it right. The more questions answered correctly, the higher the score. The maximum possible score a player can achieve is one thousand four hundred points, but to achieve this the player must not only answer the questions, but also find three hidden objects.
