Swarm Rampage
Swarm Rampage, released in 2002, is a Windows game that pits players against an onslaught of alien attackers. In the game, up to four players are given the task of thwarting a seemingly never-ending army of hostile creatures intent on taking over the planet. The goal of the game is to protect the four strategic points of defense within the game, and eventually, after destroying waves of enemies, face off against the invading forces' leader.
The game can be played in either single-player or multiplayer mode, allowing gamers to compete against each other or work together as a team to save the planet. Combat is carried out in both ground and air, with players being able to control different units of either type. As players progress through the game, they can unlock various special abilities and weapons, while also upgrading their units in order to more effectively tackle increasingly difficult enemies.
Graphics in Swarm Rampage are colorful and vibrant, giving the game a cartoonish feel. The sound effects are well done as well, conveying a sense of scale and urgency as players battle against the overwhelming enemy forces. The game also includes a variety of gameplay modes, such as deathmatch and capture the flag, making for varied and replayable experiences.
Despite its fast action and engaging gameplay, Swarm Rampage unfortunately lacks in certain areas. Balancing can be a problem at times, especially when playing in single-player mode. The difficulty can ramp up quickly and become quite punishing for those not prepared. Additionally, the storyline is quite generic and inessential to the overall game.
Swarm Rampage offers up some intense action and is a decent game overall, especially when played with friends. With its easy-to-learn-but-difficult-to-master mechanics, it's worth checking out if players are looking for a classic Windows game.
