M*A*T*H*S Circus
Definitely one of the best math titles ever made, M&42;A&42;T&42;T&42;H&42;S Circus is a collection of math-oriented activities in puzzle form for all ages.
Although it may seem like a program for young children, don't let the circus theme fool you. In reality, the themes serve as clever hooks for problems and puzzles that cover many more subjects than math, and will appeal to math enthusiasts of all ages. The Trapeze activity, for example, teaches you about pendulums, while Captain Cannonhead in Cannon Shot (my favorite game in this one) teaches about propulsion, angles, and more.
There are twelve puzzles/activities in all, each with five difficulty levels ranging from very simple (for preschoolers) to very challenging (even for teachers and parents). The problems are varied, involving spatial reasoning, perception of size, order or time patterns, and manipulation of a number of variables to help the circus performers perform their tricks.
With excellent game design, a wide variety of fun and original games, multiple levels of difficulty, and superb educational value, M&42;A&42;T&42;H&42;S Circus is a must-have for parents looking for a solid math title, as well as for gamers who don't mind a little mental exercise now and then. Revised in early 1997, M&42;A&42;T&42;H&42;S Circus is now offered in a Windows 3. 1/95 version with improved graphics and sounds, as well as support for players with disabilities. In addition, the series lives on, with many sequels (called 'Acts') being released almost annually.
Highly recommended, and a worthy entry in our halls of late fame.
