Australo Piticus Mechanicus

Amiga 1988
Australo Piticus Mechanicus is a platform game published exclusively on Amiga. The player has to guide the protagonist named Androids van Laptop on his journey to rescue his lost maiden. The game itself switches between screens, there is no scrolling. In melee combat you can strike with your sword (if you have one), or throw stones if you want to keep your distance. Weapons can be purchased from stores, which are often placed on platforms. On your way, you collect money and gems to stock up on better weapons. You can jump, pick up items (mostly keys), use objects and you often have to climb stairs. The game character has two attributes: hit points, which represent health, and strength, which defines how much damage the player character does to enemies and is defined by the equipment and weapon the character carries. There are eight levels. In addition to the platforming gameplay, there is a futuristic gag: directly after loading the game you can decide not to enter the game, but the 'system'. The system is a text-based Unix-like console, in which by typing commands you can find a Space Invaders game and some pictures of the developers.

Challenger

Amiga 1987
In the late 1980s, the world of video games was dominated by the Amiga computer, a powerful machine that revolutionized the way we looked at gaming. Among the many titles released for the Amiga, one game stood out for its unique gameplay and stunning graphics – Challenger. Developed by Nexus Productions and released in 1987, Challenger quickly gained a cult following and became one of the most beloved games of its time. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Challenger follows the story of a lone survivor who must fight their way through dangerous territories to reach a safe haven. The game is a hybrid of action and strategy, where players must navigate through different levels, collect resources, and engage in combat with various enemies. What sets Challenger apart from other games of its time is its attention to detail, from the intricately designed levels to the complex gameplay mechanics. One of the most impressive aspects of Challenger is its graphics. The game boasts 16-bit graphics that were just mind-blowing at the time of its release. The developers took full advantage of the Amiga's capabilities to create stunning visuals that added depth and immersion to the gameplay. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the game, from the character designs to the various environments the player must traverse. Challenger also offered a unique gameplay experience, combining action and strategy elements in a seamless way. Players had to carefully plan their moves, considering the limited resources and different types of enemies they would encounter. The combat system was also well-crafted, with challenging boss battles that required quick reflexes and strategic thinking. The game's difficulty level was well-balanced, providing a challenging experience without becoming frustrating. One of the standout features of Challenger was its soundtrack. The game's music was composed by the famous musician David Whittaker and perfectly complemented the post-apocalyptic setting of the game. The soundtrack featured a mix of ambient and action-packed tracks that added to the intensity of the gameplay. The sound effects were also top-notch, adding to the overall immersive experience of the game. Challenger's success on the Amiga can also be attributed to its replay value. The game featured multiple endings, encouraging players to replay it to see all possible outcomes. Additionally, there were hidden secrets and Easter eggs that could be discovered, adding to the game's longevity. Challenger also had a two-player mode, allowing players to team up and conquer the challenges together.
