Windows 1997
Pictionary CD-ROM is an iconic Windows game released in 1997. It was the first of its kind and provided hours of endless entertainment to those who decided to give the virtual adaptation of the classic family board game a try. Since its initial release, the game has gone through two revisions with an HD version Brought out by Hasbro in 2016. Essentially, players are challenged to draw a picture using only their imagination and a mouse. The other players are tasked with correctly guessing the word or phrase from the sketch. There are even hints available to help decipher the drawings, making the game more suitable for all ages. The game also boasts a neat set of added features over its physical counterpart. This includes the various artistic mediums that can be chosen when creating the sketches and the ability to digitally express ideas with sound effects, animations, and titles. The game even offers various preset environments, like a deserted island or a tropical beach. In addition, the game allows for up four players at a time in a session. That way, players can choose to play against the computer or local friends. They can even join a friend online, although this requires a unique link and code. It’s also crucial to note that progress is automatically saved to the PC to prevent players from having to start completely from scratch, while simultaneously allowing them to switch between players with ease. The game’s longevity is attributed to its ability to be replayed over and over while still providing a unique experience each time. It is ideal for family gatherings, office parties, and video game nights alike. But despite all the features and colorful graphics, its biggest draw remains the fact that it rewards in-person communication and creativity.
