Dungeon Lords
Galdryn of the Meadows, a powerful wizard, was treacherously murdered by another wizard. A conspiracy seems to have been born within the Circle of Wizards. Having lost his powerful ally, Lord Davenmor of Fargrove finds it increasingly difficult to protect his city against the onslaught of Lord Barrowgrim's malevolent army of marauders. Under pressure, Lord Davenmor promises the invader that he will be able to marry his daughter, Lady Ellowyn. However, her heart belongs to another man, and she escapes. A lone traveler passing through Fargrove seems to be the only one who can solve this predicament, and finally free the land from the forces of evil.
Dungeon Lords is an action role-playing game set in a fantasy world. At the beginning of the game the player creates the protagonist, choosing from seven available races and four starting classes. The races include, in addition to the traditional Humans, Elves and Dwarves, other original humanoid or animal-like races: Urgoth, Wylvan, Zaur and Thrall. The initial classes are Fighter, Mage, Adept (a mixture of both) and Rogue. Each has different starting base attributes in six categories, which are also affected by the player's choice of gender.
The player can manually allocate the remaining points to improve the base attributes, as well as other skills, such as weapon proficiencies, magic categories, lockpicking, etc. - during character creation, as well as any time the protagonist gains a sufficient amount of experience points. As players progress, they can earn second and third level classes to help further develop their characters. Each class can gain skills in all abilities, although some may be more difficult to obtain. For example, a fighter can train a weapon skill for relatively few skill points, but would need many more skill points to train a magic skill.
There are four types of magic: celestial, arcane, subterranean, and runic. Arcane magic is the standard form of magic with scrolls and spellbooks. Celestial magic uses star crystals, each of which is capable of casting a particular spell and needs to be recharged once the charges are depleted. Abyss magic requires mixing several katals to create the spell. These katals can be found throughout the game and include things like bat wings, rat tails, and other animal and monster ingredients. Runic magic also requires mixing items to create spells. However, rune magic uses runes instead of katals.
Exploring large dungeons, hunting for treasure and fighting enemies inside them take up most of the game, although it also features an overworld with limited exploration possibilities, as well as a large city and other settlements where the protagonist can acquire side quests and join guilds, promoting his status in the chosen classes. There is a wide variety of melee and ranged weapons, armor and spells to find in the game. Enemies in the game can reappear in random locations even if the player character stands still. The frequency of these appearances can be regulated in the game's options menu.
Wizards & Warriors
Wizards & Warriors is a classic action-adventure game that was released back in 2000 for the Windows platform. Developed by Heuristic Park and published by Activision, this game takes players on an epic journey through a fantasy world filled with magic, monsters, and mysterious places.
The game follows the story of Kuros, a brave knight who must rescue the kingdom from the clutches of an evil wizard named Malakar. Kuros is armed with his trusty sword, shield, and various magical spells as he embarks on his quest to defeat the tyrannical sorcerer and restore peace to the land.
What sets Wizards & Warriors apart from other games in the genre is its unique combination of action and puzzle-solving elements. Players must use their wits and reflexes to battle hordes of enemies, while also deciphering clues and solving puzzles to progress through the game. This adds an extra layer of challenge and depth to the gameplay, making it a truly immersive experience.
The game features stunning 3D graphics for its time, with detailed environments and beautifully animated characters. From dark and ominous dungeons to lush forests and majestic castles, each location in the game is carefully crafted and adds to the overall atmosphere of the game.
One of the standout features of Wizards & Warriors is its diverse range of enemies and boss battles. From goblins and skeletons to dragons and demons, players will encounter a variety of creatures throughout their journey, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Boss battles are particularly thrilling and require strategic thinking and quick reflexes to defeat.
Another aspect of the game that adds to its charm is the magic system. Players have access to a variety of spells that can be used to attack enemies, solve puzzles, and even heal oneself. As players progress through the game, they can learn more powerful spells, making them even more formidable against their foes.
In addition to the main story mode, Wizards & Warriors also offers a multiplayer mode where players can team up with friends to take on challenges and quests together. This adds an extra level of social interaction to the game, making it a great choice for those who enjoy playing with others.
