Kasparov's Gambit

DOS 1993
Undoubtedly the most underrated chess game in history, Kasparov's Gambit features a powerful chess engine that used to draw World Champion Gary Kasparov, a complete database of past games and - best of all - Gary Kasparov himself giving advice and commentary during the game, with digitized voices. Although the game never sold well, it deservedly ranks 145th on CGW's list of the 150 greatest games of all time. CGW's comment: 'It doesn't measure up to Chessmaster, but it was the first to effectively use multimedia to illuminate the mysteries of chess. The powerful AI didn't hurt either'.

Webster: The Word Game

Webster: The Word Game is a word recognition game. The object of the game is to fill in the missing letters in an incomplete word. Each round a word will appear at the top of the screen with several letters missing. The word will start to move slowly towards the bottom of the screen and along the bottom of the screen is the complete alphabet. The player has to select the missing letters in the word before time runs out and the word reaches the bottom of the screen. Completing a word earns points, but if the word reaches the bottom of the screen, the player loses a life. The game ends when all five lives are lost. There are several skill levels available that affect the time limit for each word and the complexity of the word. The game includes over 700 words of varying length and difficulty. Game scoring is based on the number of correct/incorrect letters selected and whether or not clues are used. In addition to the alphabet, at the bottom of the screen are several asterisks representing clues. If more than one letter is missing, the player can choose a hint to fill in the missing letter in exchange for fewer points when the word is solved. At the more difficult skill levels, a demon word will occasionally appear; demon words are more difficult and move very fast compared to the other words. If the player fails when a demon word appears a life is not lost, however hints are not available. Also, if a demon word is not solved, the solution will not be revealed to the player, unlike normal words. At skill level 7 (the hardest) there are also challenge rounds that consist entirely of demonic words; in this case, failing a demonic word does cost a life.
