Moonbases
Moonbases was a real-time strategy video game developed by BMT Micro and released by Morphicon Industries in 1999. This Fast-paced sci-fi strategy game is set in the year 2194 with the objective of building a scientific outpost on the Moon. Players take control of a United Nations colonization team and must build and manage their own moonbase while defending it from alien invaders.
The game is a unique hybrid both of strategic resource management and combat, played out in real-time. Players must collect minerals, manage resources, and build up their base in order to fend off the alien threat. The moon is rich in mineral resources that can be mined for the base's development. The base can be constructed into components such as generators, turrets, and other defensive structures.
In addition to the resource-management aspects of the game, tactical combat simulations become necessary to defend the base against alien forces. Consequently, players must construct three combat craft: artillery, mine-laying, and reconnaissance vessels. Different missions require different types of craft, and players may have to combine the three types in order to be successful. The combat itself is largely automated, with players simply choosing options such as attack, defend, or retreat.
