The Golden Path
Y'n Hsi is a Buddhist monk whose father was murdered by a warlord named Ch'un Kuei. To defeat the tyrant and regain his family's palace, he must travel The Golden Path, the path to transcendence.
The Golden Path is a point and click adventure game. Instead of using verbs as in Maniac Mansion, the player controls the monk with the mouse by moving a cursor in the shape of a Chinese letter and clicking directly on it on the screen. Left-clicking on a point on the ground moves the monk towards it. If you left-click below Y'n Hsi, the monk bends down to drop or pick up objects from the ground. When you left-click on his head, he tries to use the object he is currently holding (if it is not possible to do so, a question mark appears). By clicking the right button, the monk punches and kicks, his defense against enemies. Each time the monk is hit, the inventory flashes briefly. At the bottom left of the screen is a book that serves as a sort of hint system. When you click on it, a message appears on the screen with explanations about events, characters and objects. In addition to the book is the inventory with four slots for items. Left-clicking on an object places it in Y'n Hsi's hands. Above the inventory is a slowly withering vine as an energy bar. This grows as you complete certain tasks.
The main objective is to follow The Golden Path. Literally. At the bottom right of the screen is a small version of the main game screen showing the path and its forks. The character moves from screen to screen picking up things lying around, fighting the occasional enemy and using the right item in the right place.
Pressing S saves the game, while pressing L loads the game.
