Power Up plus

Atari ST 1998
Power Up plus is the improved successor of Power Up. The racing game is inspired by the Super Cars games. The race track is viewed from above and scrolls in all eight directions. Playing a season, a sequence of tracks must be solved and points are rewarded for the position the player reaches at the end of the race after three rounds. Collecting enough points to reach the top of the league after the season is the ultimate goal of the game. There are four different types of tracks: Mini, Easy, Medium and Hard, which are basically separated by the length of the track. The driving skills of computer-controlled opponents can be changed in three levels, from Easy to Hard. The races are spiced up by the weapons that each player can use: each car can shoot to the front and leave oil to annoy the following cars. If hit by gunfire or oil, the car is uncontrollable for a few moments. The use of weapons can be disabled in the options. In two-player mode the screen is split horizontally, giving both players their own view of their current position on the track. As in the normal game, there are additional computer opponents on the street and the season is played. Two additional multiplayer modes have been implemented: in 'Duel', the game view is a single window. If one of the cars falls behind and moves out of the view of the area seen by the leader, the cars move back and the player behind receives a penalty. The other multiplayer mode 'Duel Special' has the same rules, but there are more computer controlled cars on the streets. The game runs on any Atari ST system, but uses virtually any additional hardware possible (blitter, STE sound) and can even use exotic hardware such as the MV16 and Replay Pro digital sound systems. A track editor is included with the game, allowing you to create new tracks conveniently.
