Hyper Wars
After humans ventured into outer space, they began to build colonies there. They became increasingly difficult to maintain, and special robots known as 'Bidroids' were invented to do the hard work. However, the colonies began to wage war against each other, and the Bidroids were used for military purposes. When peace was finally reached, the leaders decided that the Bidroids could continue to function as fighting machines, but in friendly championships and not in deadly wars.
Hyper Wars is primarily a management simulation; robot combat is calculated based on how the player has created and maintained his robots. The player controls the manager of a team that competes in a league, with schedules, stadiums, etc. The player receives an initial budget with which he can create the first robot models and train them. Each robot can be created by merging several parts ('human', 'beast', 'bird', etc. ). After creation, it is necessary to equip the robot with weapons and improve its parameters by paying for training. When the player feels ready, the robots can be taken to combat arenas and participate in the tournament.
Ojōsama Express
Ojōsama Express, a unique gem in the catalog of SEGA Saturn titles, was released in 1998 and remains a significant entry in the niche of visual novels and simulation games. Developed by the Studio e.go!, it offered players an intriguing blend of romantic narrative and strategic gameplay mechanics, which distinguished it from other titles of the era. Set within a charming, whimsical universe, the game transports players into a world where the intricacies of social dynamics among the upper class are paramount.
At its core, Ojōsama Express revolves around the lives of young women—or “ojōsama”—from prestigious families. Players take on the role of a butler tasked with ensuring the well-being and happiness of these high-society characters. The game is highly interactive, allowing players to cultivate relationships with the ojōsama through dialogue choices and event outcomes. This dynamic engagement fosters a deep sense of immersion as players navigate the fictional aristocratic environment, addressing the desires and challenges faced by the game's characters.
The visual presentation of Ojōsama Express is distinctly captivating, adorned with beautiful hand-drawn artwork and character designs that embody the aesthetic of late '90s anime culture. The atmospheric music enhances the overall experience, enveloping players in a melodic backdrop that complements the narrative's emotional beats. Each scene is filled with vibrant colors and intricate details, inviting players to lose themselves in the opulent settings depicted throughout the game.
One of the most fascinating elements of Ojōsama Express is the variety of endings available, governed by the player's choices and interactions. This feature not only encourages multiple playthroughs but also allows players to explore different facets of the narrative. The sound design further enriches the experience, with voice acting bringing to life the colorful cast of characters, enhancing the player's emotional connection to their journeys.
Despite being released in a competitive era dominated by action-packed titles, Ojōsama Express managed to carve a niche for itself, appealing to fans of romantic storytelling and interactive narratives. The game's unique premise, combined with its charming presentation and engaging gameplay, has solidified its place as a beloved classic among SEGA Saturn enthusiasts. Although it may not have achieved mainstream success, it remains a cherished title that showcases the creativity and ambition of its developers, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of visual novels and simulation games.
Seiya Monogatari: Anearth Fantasy Stories
A mysterious young woman with a baby was attacked during Holy Night. She managed to escape, but collapsed and died in front of the church in the town of Yalem. However, the baby survived, grew up and eventually became a hero on a quest to avenge his mother's killers and save the world.
Seiya Monogatari: Anearth Fantasy Stories differs from most other RPGs in several important ways. The player creates the main character in a unique way: when the baby is lying in the snow outside the church, several people pass by. The player can choose to press the action button, making the baby cry and attracting the attention of these people. Depending on when this 'baby action' occurs, the hero will be adopted by different people, making him belong to a different character class (fighter, thief, mage or monk), and also resulting in four completely different prologues (once the hero turns fifteen, the four stories end up merging into one).
Instead of random battles - or even regular battles with wandering enemies - the game has preset battles, which occur much less frequently than in traditional Japanese RPGs. Winning battles depends less on leveling up and more on the tactics used during the battle. There are no levels in the game; instead, characters gain better stats based on their actions during battles (e. g. , using magic will increase magic power, etc. ). Battles are turn-based and are viewed from a side-scrolling perspective. The game focuses on exploration, as it features expansive and complex locations, as well as a multitude of items of different categories that can be found if the player explores the game world properly.
