The Adventures of Captain Comic
Captain Comic and its sequel are competent shareware platformers at a time when the shareware scene was dominated by Apogee and Epic Megagames (and still is, to a lesser extent).
The best thing about the game is the huge non-linear playing field that is divided into several different terrains. In the role of Captain Comic, galactic hero, you jump from platform to platform and collect all sorts of bunny goodies. Your only weapon is your blaster, which can fire a variable number of shots depending on how many blastola tails you have collected. Other items you can find are the pickaxe, jetpack, magic wand and other knick-knacks.
The graphics are EGA only and not as detailed as Apogee's platformer games, but they are more than sufficient. There's also a puzzle-solving element (e. g. , find this or that treasure, the exit to the next level, etc. ) thrown into the mix to make the game more challenging.
Overall, both games are above average and action fans should check them out, although they are far from comparable to Apogee's classics in terms of breadth and depth.
