Inside Outside Shapes

Apple II 1986
Inside Outside Shapes is an innovative and imaginative Apple II game released in 1986, developed by Datamost. A vivid playroom awaits you upon launching the game: bright, imaginative graphics, aesthetically pleasing melodies, and a narrative-driven user interface transports you back in time in an instant. The objective of the game is to match shapes within an antagonistic set of inner/outer walls. You can choose from a variety of colorful shapes, each with its own set of characteristics and attributes. Each level requires careful planning, bold actions, and quick thinking in order to acquire the most stars and move on to the next level. A unique rating system is implemented to keep track of your progress. After completing a level, you will receive one to four stars depending on the number of shapes successfully matched and the score you obtained. If the shape is incorrectly matched, a “try again” option presents itself allowing the player to hone their skill and become better with each consecutive attempt. Inside Outside Shapes is widely regarded as a simple but enjoyable game, with engaging mechanics that are surprisingly challenging and difficult to master. Furthermore, you can earn extra points by completing all of the levels before time runs out. When played with a friend, it can introduce a competition where players can compete and earn rewards with each level. The game controllers are easy to use, and the intuitive design makes Inside Outside Shapes playable on both devices with and without joysticks. This age-old classic is still celebrated today, with its simple yet elegant impressing new fans after all of these years.
