Postman Pat: Package of Fun

Windows 2002
Postman Pat: Package of Fun is a package of four mini-games for ages 3-6, each featuring an element of the national curriculum. The game is very simple, loaded on a picture of Postman Pat in Mrs. Goggins' post office. By moving the cursor on the screen, four large hot spots can be found, each of which triggers a different activity. Jess the cat triggers an activity in which the player controls Jess's thirst and hunger, indicated by two progress bars; feeding Jess and responding to the cat's needs are two elements of Science Key Stage 1: humans and animals need food to survive and and and water for humans and animals to survive, how to treat animals with respect and sensitivity. The activity will last 6 minutes, after which the player will receive a progress report. Clicking on 'Postman Pat' will start the memory game. There are three levels in this game, which is similar to a 'Simon Says' game. In level 1, the player sees two characters, each with distinctive movements and sounds. The player must memorize a series of movements and recreate them by clicking on the characters. Levels 2 and 3 are the same as level 1, with three and four characters, respectively. This activity develops the memory skills needed in Math Key Stage 1 and encourages the use of mental arithmetic. The postcard in Pat's hand triggers a matching game. This is a game for one or two players and is a type of concentration game consisting of three levels and three different picture pairs. Level 1 has 6 pairs of images, level 2 has 9 pairs of images and level 3 has 12 pairs of images. Level 3 also has a timer. The picture sets affect the difficulty of the game. The easy set features characters from a TV show, while the second set features different people, but the hat they wear determines the pair. The last set is called 'Dance Moves' and consists of images of Postman Pat in various positions. This activity also develops the memory skills needed for math key stage 1. The last mini-game is 'Package Making', which is initiated by clicking on Mrs. Goggins. This is a 3-level single-player mini-game, in which players must make packages identical to those on the shelves. By clicking the correct button, the package will be placed in the machine. Once loaded, they can press more buttons to change the color and press more buttons to load the package on the correct shelf. In level 1, two packages are matched by color. Level 2 introduces another machine, one that changes the pattern and one that changes the color, again matching the two packs. Level 3 is the same as level 2, but with three matching packets. This corresponds to the elements of Key Stage 1 Design and Technology. The game is played entirely with the mouse. There are sound effects and, of course, Postman Pat's song.
