F1 Tornado

Atari ST 1992
Released in 1992, F1 Tornado was a highly anticipated racing game for the Atari ST system. Developed by Impact Software and published by Elite Systems, this game promised to bring an authentic Formula One racing experience to gamers. And it certainly delivered. Players were immediately drawn in by the stunning graphics and realistic gameplay. The game featured 3D polygonal graphics, which was a huge leap forward from the 2D graphics of previous racing games. The attention to detail was remarkable, from the cars to the tracks, everything was designed to be as true to life as possible. But F1 Tornado was not just about its graphics. The gameplay was also top-notch. Players had the option to choose from a variety of real-life Formula One teams and drivers, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. This added an element of strategy to the game, as players had to carefully select the right team and driver to match their racing style. The game featured a variety of game modes, including single races, a full championship season, and even a split-screen multiplayer mode. The championship mode was especially challenging, as players had to compete in all 16 races of the 1991 Formula One season. This added a sense of realism and longevity to the game, keeping players engaged for hours on end. One of the standout features of F1 Tornado was its realistic physics and handling. The cars felt like they had real weight and momentum, making it a challenge to navigate the winding courses. This added a layer of depth to the gameplay, as players had to constantly adjust their driving style based on the track conditions and weather. Speaking of weather, this was another impressive aspect of F1 Tornado. The game featured dynamic weather, with rain and changing weather conditions affecting the track and therefore, the gameplay. This was a first for racing games at the time and added another level of realism to the game.
