For those who lived through the golden era of gaming in the mid-1980s, A Bosszú is without a doubt a much beloved part of childhood memories. Developed in 1988 by Novotrade and published by Kingsoft, it arrived on the scene with a whirlwind of excitement as one of the first Hungarian-developed games released on the Commodore 64.
A Bosszú ( meaning vengeance in Hungarian ) offered its players an exciting and challenging side-scrolling adventure with a twist. Set in a far-off galaxy on the mysterious planet of Kraków, your mission is to protect the legacy of your dying father and save the endangered Kraków race from the Flawist Empire.
Dynamic and full of vivid colors, the 16-bit era game featured the hair-raising sound track movements and lots of neat tricks, such as when the character would move off the screen the background colors changes. It also boasted incredibly intricate hand-drawn backdrops. Every level experienced unique, limited movement with character physics that change depending on the terrain.
Armed with a basic one-handed weapon initially, your character can eventually upgrade to a two-handed version by collecting various power-ups and bonuses. With added attacking maneuvers, and the option to increase levels of difficulty—it was sure to keep dungeons-and-dragons aficionados happy.
Nothing beats the thrill of aiming for top score in A Bosszú. Dozens of deadly robots and interdimensional evil entities were in your way, coupled with other hidden bonuses such as the invincible shield. As you battle your way to the finish line, you must then face the supreme overlord— and hopefully save your father's legacy!
